AUBURN – On the opening day of play in the 2012 Auburn Fall Invitational, the Auburn women’s tennis team posted 14 victories in 15 matches across both doubles and singles at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.

“I’m really pleased with the way we played today,” Auburn women’s tennis head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “I’m really pleased with the way the team overcame the heat and then rain and picked up some big wins. I am looking forward to seeing us come back early tomorrow and finishing this weekend strong.”

Temperatures soared in the 90s on Friday afternoon before rain around 4 p.m. suspended play and brought in humid conditions in addition to the wet courts.

Five different Tigers will play in the finals of their singles flight on Saturday. Seniors Paulina Schippers and Plamena Kurteva both recorded a pair of singles wins in addition to a doubles victory. Additionally, sophomore Lauren Levant recorded two big wins and freshman Ashley Kitchens earned wins in her first two matches as a Tiger. The duo also secured an 8-3 doubles win over Sandra Ahlqvist and Hannah Appleyard.

Jackie Kasler picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win over Alexa Flynn from UT-Chattanooga and a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Celia Fraser from Houston. She also teamed with Jen Pfeifler for an 8-4 doubles win the first flight. Pfeifler will play in the consolation final of singles flight one after a 7-5, 6-1 win over Paola Garrido of Georgia Southern.
