AUBURN, Ala. – No. 17 Alizee Michaud and Taylor Russo defeated No. 19 Donika Bashota and Olaya Garrido-Rivas of TCU to advance to the round of 16 in the NCAA Women’s Tennis Doubles Championship in Athens, Ga. on Thursday.
“I was really impressed with Allie and Taylor’s play today,” Auburn head coach Lauren Spencer said. “They were in control of the match from start to finish and mentally on point. They executed their game plan to produce an impressive win in the opening round.”
The duo defeated TCU in straight sets, by a score of 6-0, 6-3 to improve to 22-11 on the season. Michaud and Russo lead the team with eight wins over ranked opponents on the season.
With the win, Michaud becomes the all-time leader in combined wins for a singles season with 58 (33 singles and 25 doubles). Also, Russo moves into a tie for the all-time lead in single season doubles victories with 27.
Michaud and Russo will face the winner of Georgia’s No. 3 Ellen Perez and Caroline Brinson and No. 18 Fancesca Di Lorenzo and Miho Kawase of Ohio State, tomorrow.
