Auburn sophomore Fani Chifchieva fell to the number seven-seeded Amanda McDowell of Georgia Tech in the semifinal round of the NCAA Singles Championship hosted by the University of Tulsa.

"Fani had a great year and a great tournament," said Auburn head coach Tim Gray. "She should be very proud of her accomplishments this year. I know I am. McDowell played fantastic today. I felt like our game plan was a good one, but McDowell had an answer for everything. She is looking very sharp."

McDowell, ranked No. 7 by the ITA, defeated No. 14 Chifchieva 6-3, 6-2.

Chifchieva concludes the season with a 27-3 singles record, the third-most singles season victories of any Auburn women's tennis player.

"I am proud of our team and the strides that the program continues to make," Gray said. "This was a part of a total team effort."
