WACO, Texas - Auburn doubles tandem Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger fell 6-1, 6-2 to Baylor’s Ema Burgic and Blair Shankle in the opening round of the NCAA Championships on Thursday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
“Pleun and Emily both had great seasons,” Auburn head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “I’m so proud of both of them and all they accomplished this year. They will go down as one of the best doubles pairs in school history and the only back-to-back doubles All-Americans Auburn has ever had. I’m really proud of Emily and all her accomplishments over her four-year career both on the courts and as a student.”
No. 8 Burgmans/Flickinger finished the year with a 24-11 overall record, including a 13-8 mark in dual matches. Flickinger finishes her career as the program’s all-time leader in doubles victories with 94, while Burgmans’ 27 doubles wins in 2015 rank as the third-most in Auburn single-season history.
The pair earned its second straight All-America selection after being selected as a national No. 5-8 seed for the NCAA Championships.
