ATHENS, Ga. – Auburn sophomore Pleun Burgmans fell in straight sets to Stanford’s 50th-ranked Taylor Davidson, 6-2, 6-0 to wrap up her sophomore season in the round of 64 at the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
No. 44 Burgmans battled early, but fell behind as Davidson won four straight games to take the first set. Davidson went on to sweep the second set to earn the win over Burgmans. The sophomore finishes the 2013-14 season with an overall record of 19-16 in singles play.
Despite falling in the singles bracket, Burgmans will play alongside doubles partner Emily Flickinger on Thursday against Michigan’s Emina Bektas and Brooke Bonder. Burgmans and Flickinger are 24-6 overall this year in doubles and enter the match ranked at No. 15 by the ITA.
