LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 20 Auburn women’s tennis fell to 34th-ranked Kentucky, 4-0, on Friday indoors at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
Auburn (15-5, 5-3 SEC) battled with Kentucky (14-6, 4-4 SEC) in doubles, sending matches on courts one and two into tiebreakers. The Tigers’ fell 8-5 on court three as Paula de Man and Jackie Kasler were defeated by the Wildcats’ Kirsten Lewis and Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff to begin play.
No. 12 Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger were in a tight match at the No. 1 line, but fell in a tiebreaker, 8-7, to the Wildcats’ Nadia Ravita and CeCe Witten. The loss marked the first defeat for the pair this year, snapping a 13-match winning streak and allowing the Wildcats to take the doubles point.
On court two, Michala Kucharova and Jen Pfeifler were tied at 7-7 in a tiebreaker when play was abandoned.
In singles, de Man fell on court three, 6-3, 6-1 to Kentucky’s Kelsey Dieters. No. 75 Flickinger dropped her third match of the season as Kentucky’s Aldila Sutjiadi defeated the junior 6-1, 7-5 to make it 3-0 Wildcats.
No. 32 Burgmans lost 7-6, 6-4 on court one against the Wildcats’ 65th-ranked Ravita to allow Kentucky to clinch the match.
With just four indoors court at Kentucky, Kasler’s match on court five had just started and the senior was down 2-1 early in the first set before play was called. Pfeifler was scheduled to play on court six, but her match did not start after play was suspended. Kucharova was locked into a three-setter on court four at a set apiece, trailing 3-1 in the third set.
Auburn rounds out the road weekend on Sunday at No. 10 Vanderbilt. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. in Nashville. Fans can follow along with live stats on AuburnTigers.com.
