Women's Tennis Falls to South Carolina, 4-1

COLUMBIA S.C - No. 18 Auburn fell to No. 49 South Carolina, 4-1, Friday at the Carolina Tennis Center to move to 14-3 (4-2 SEC).

In doubles, No. 54 duo of freshman Pleun Burgmans and senior Plamena Kurteva were defeated by the Gamecocks' Jaklin Alawi and Dominika Kanakova, 8-5 at the top spot. South Carolina's Josefin Andersson and Katerina Popovar clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 win over junior Jackie Kasler and sophomore Emily Flickinger on court two.

In singles, No. 102 Katerina Popova defeated freshman Michala Kucharova 6-4, 6-0 on court two. South Carolina's Domika Kana overcame sophomore Jen Pfiefler 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 4 position.

On court six, Kurteva earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Andersson. Clinching the match for the Gamecocks was Elixane Lechemia, who defeated Flickinger 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 on court three.

The Tigers will return to action Sunday as they travel to Gainesville to take on No. 2 Florida at 1 p.m. ET at the Linder Stadium at the Ring Tennis Complex.
