AUBURN, Ala. - No. 39 Auburn women's tennis defeated Tennessee, 4-0, on Friday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center to collect its first conference victory of the season.

The Tigers (11-4, 1-2 SEC) also earned their first 4-0 sweep against Tennessee (8-7, 0-3 SEC) in program history. Auburn has won back-to-back meetings against the Lady Vols at the Yarbrough Tennis Center, defeating Tennessee, 4-1, during the 2013 season.

"Overall, it was a good win. We started a little slower on court three in doubles than I would have liked, but I was proud of how Paula and Michala battled back," head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. "We've got to work on closing matches out in singles, but it's always a good feeling to get your first SEC win especially on your home court."

Auburn claimed the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Reka Muller and Jen Pfeifler were the first pair off to finish, topping Tennessee's Laurence Guevremont, 8-5, at the No. 2 line. The victory marked Pfeifler's 80th career doubles win, which ranks as the fourth-most in school history.

Michala Kucharova and Paula de Man clinched the doubles point by earning an impressive comeback win on court three for the Tigers. The tandem trailed 7-2 and broke serve three times to force a set-deciding tiebreaker, eventually topping Tennessee's Victoria Olivarez and Tiffany Tavares, 8-7 (7-3).

No. 8 Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger were up 6-4 when play was suspended on court one. Flickinger remains one win shy of setting the program record for doubles victories.

In singles, Auburn quickly saw its lead jump to 2-0 as Pfeifler won by default on court six after Tennessee shuffled its lineup down to just five players.

Reka Muller defeated Tennessee's Ashlee Boles 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 5 line to put Auburn up 3-0. Andie Dikosavljevic followed up quickly on court two with a 6-1, 7-5 victory on court two to seal the win for the Tigers. The freshman moved her singles record to 10-3 in dual matches with the victory, the best mark on the team.

No. 55 Burgmans and de Man were playing in three-set matches when play was abandoned. Flickinger had battled her way back into the match on court three after dropping the opening set and was up 5-3 looking to force a third when play stopped.

Auburn returns to action on Sunday and hosts No. 6 Georgia at 1 p.m. at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. Live stats can be found online at AuburnTigers.com and admission is free to Sunday's match.
