NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Despite Tori Almagno and Whitney Chappell winning the No. 1 doubles match over No. 15 Vanderbilt, the Auburn women's tennis team was upended by the Commodores, 7-0, at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center on Sunday.

The loss was the third in a row for the Tigers (4-5, 0-2 SEC) as they dropped below .500 for the first time this season. Vanderbilt (10-1, 2-0 SEC) was able to take two of three doubles matches from the Tigers and swept all six singles matches.

After Vanderbilt's duo of Courtney Ulery and Liberty Sveke defeated the Tigers' No. 3 doubles team of Erin Gray and Leigh Tippins, 8-0, Almagno and Chappell teamed up for the Tigers lone victory of the match. The duo won their second straight match in the No. 1 position and moved their record to 4-2 as they defeated the Commodores No. 1 team of Amanda Taylor and Maggie Yahner, 8-4.

With each team splitting the first two doubles matches, the doubles point came down to the No. 2 match with the Tigers' tandem of Ashley Cowart and Alex Haney facing Vanderbilt's team of Amanda Fith and Taka Bertrand. In a match that went to a tie break, Fish and Bertrand defeated Cowart and Haney, 9-7, to secure the doubles point.

Following the Tigers' close loss of the doubles point, Vanderbilt was able to swing all the momentum of the match its way as the Commodores won all six singles points.

Playing in the No. 1 position for the fourth straight match, Alex Haney fell 6-4, 6-1 to No. 19 Amanda Fish. In the No. 2 spot, No. 89 Whitney Chappell lost to No. 19 Taka Bertrand, 6-0, 6-2. In the No. 3 position, Amanda Taylor of Vanderbilt defeated Ashley Cowart, 6-3, 6-3.

Auburn's lone set that was won in singles play was by Almagno in the No. 4 position. After dropping her first set 7-5 to Vandy's Courtney Ulery, Almagno battled back to take the second set 6-3 before succumbing to Ulery 1-0 in the third-set tiebreaker.

The Tigers' Dzeljan Memisi lost her No. 5 singles match to Caroline Ferrell, 6-3, 6-3 and Gray lost her No. 6 singles match to Vandy's Maggie Yahner, 6-2, 6-0.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, as they open a five-match homestand, beginning with Troy at 2 p.m.
