Final Stats

MADISON, Wis. – The No. 12 Auburn women’s tennis team was defeated by No. 21 Wake Forest 4-2 in the final consolation round of the ITA Team Indoor National Championships in Madison, Wis. on Sunday.

In doubles, the Demon Deacons’ talented tandems got off to a quick start. No. 22 Emma Davis and Chandler Carter took down Auburn’s Taylor Russo and Madeline Meredith 6-2 on court two. Alexis Franco and Mary Caroline Meredith also defeated Auburn’s Georgie Axon and Alannah Griffin 6-0 on court three.

Court one was a bright spot for the Tigers as Jaeda Daniel and Alizee Michaud had a commanding 5-2 lead over Wake Forest’s No. 34 Anna Ulyashchenko and Eliza Omirou when the point was clinched.

In singles, Joanna Zalewski notched the Demon Deacon’s second point with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Auburn’s Caroline Turner on court five. No. 77 Emma Davis put Wake Forest up by three with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Auburn’s No. 49 Jaeda Daniel on court one.

Senior Andie Dikosavljevic started Auburn’s comeback attempt by earning the Tigers’ first point with a 7-6 (7), 6-3 win over Wake Forest’s Mary Caroline Meredith on court six. That win also pushed Dikosavljevic to a 5-1 record throughout the spring this season.

 

 

The Tigers gained their second point on court three as Carter Chandler of Wake Forest retired. Alizee Michaud was leading the match 6-4, 2-0 at the time. With the win, Michaud moved to an impressive 7-1 on the season.

No. 80 Eliza Omirou closed the door for the Demon Deacons as she clinched the match point with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-0 win over Auburn’s No. 86 Taylor Russo on court two.

The only unfinished court was in a good position for the Tigers as Madeline Meredith led her match 4-6, 6-3, 3-0.

The Tigers will be back home at the Yarbrough Tennis Center for their next action against Michigan State and Samford on Saturday, Feb. 17 at noon and 6 p.m. C.T.
