Auburn, Ala. -
Thirteen members of the Auburn softball team volunteered at the Food Bank of East Alabama Tuesday afternoon, helping to sort and organize donated food items.
"I think an activity like this is a good way to give back to the community," Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. "The freshmen class came to me and asked if we could organize a day like this specifically for the Food Bank. Our freshmen are really committed to giving back. We have another group that is coming Wednesday to volunteer because finals prevented them from coming today. I'm really proud of our team for doing this."
Players Brooke Lathan, Caitlin Jordan, Maris Medina, Hilary Mavromat, Branndi Melero, Jade Rhodes, Anna Gibson, Austyn West, Lexi Davis and Marcy Harper along with Deese and assistant coaches Jessica Bachkora and Steve Johnson spent part of the afternoon at the Food Bank.
Located at 357 Industry Drive in Auburn, the Food Bank of East Alabama is dedicated to alleviating hunger while providing an efficient, coordinated system for collecting and distributing food, reducing food waste and increasing public awareness regarding hunger and food security issues in East Central Alabama.
