Softball Releases 2012 Schedule Tigers open 2012 season at home Feb. 9 vs. Alabama State

Auburn, Ala. - The Auburn softball team will open its 2012 schedule February 9 in the first of nine consecutive home games to begin the season.

The Tigers' 2012 schedule features 13 teams that advanced to NCAA Regionals last season, seven teams that reached Super Regionals and five teams that advanced to the NCAA Women's College World Series (WCWS) in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The 2012 Auburn softball team features 14 returning letterwinners from last year's team that went 40-19 and 15-13 in conference play including senior Lauren Guzman who has started every game the past three seasons, a streak of 175 games.

Guzman was also named to the 2011 All-SEC Tournament Team and finished tied for fourth in the SEC with 13 doubles last season as she helped lead the Tigers to a third-consecutive NCAA Regional berth and the semi-finals of the SEC Tournament.

Auburn begins the 2012 season against Alabama State on Feb. 9, before hosting the Tiger Invitational tournament from Feb. 10-11 at Jane B. Moore Field.

Following a single game against Appalachian State on Feb. 12, the Tigers host the SEC/ACC/Big 12 Challenge featuring Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech on Feb. 17-19. Oklahoma State and Oklahoma reached the College World Series in 2010.

The Tigers close the month of February at the Florida Atlantic Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla.

Auburn opens March at the Citrus Classic in Orlando where the Tigers will play WCWS participant Baylor and NCAA Regional participants UCLA, Michigan and Penn State.

The Tigers open Southeastern Conference play on the road against LSU on March 14 before traveling to Athens to play Georgia on March 16-18. Auburn opens its home SEC slate against Kentucky on March 23-25.

Auburn hosts Alabama in a double-header March 27. The Tigers also host SEC foes Tennessee (April 5-7), Arkansas (April 20-22) and Mississippi State (May 4-6).

The 2012 SEC Tournament will be played May 10-12 in Tuscaloosa. NCAA Regional play runs May 17-20, with Super Regionals played May 24-27. The Women's College World Series will run May 31-June 6.
