October 27 , 2004

PLANT CITY, Fla. - Auburn softball senior Sara Dean went 3-for-6 with two runs batted in as Team USA won both of its games on the second day of the 1st World University Softball Championship.

Dean went 2-for-3 in the first game of the day, a 2-1 victory over Australia, and followed that up with a 1-for-3 effort against the Netherlands as Team USA rolled to a 2-0 win.

Dean drove in both of Team USA's runs against Australia, singling in the first inning and doubling in the sixth. She also reached first on a error by shortstop Kate Quigley, but was thrown out trying to steal second on the ensuing batter.

Australia scored its only run of the game in the seventh, but had runners on second and third with one out. Alicia Hollowell, though, struck out consecutive batters to seal the victory.

Hollowell and Kami Keiter combined to hold Australia to one run over seven innings, with Keiter picking up the victory.

In game two, Dean singled through the left side of the infield in USA's two-run fifth.

Amy Harre and Monica Abbott held the Netherlands to four hits over seven innings. Harre picked up the victory.

Team USA is now 3-1 after four games. Dean, meanwhile, is 5-for-12 (.416) with four RBI and two doubles.

Dean and Team USA face off against Canada at 8 a.m. CT., on Thursday, and follow that up with a game against China at 11 a.m.
