Auburn, Ala. -

The Auburn softball team begins its 2010 fall season Thursday with a pair of games at Jane B. Moore Field.

The Tigers host Snead State Junior College at 5 p.m. and Wallace State at 7 p.m.

A week into fall practice, Auburn head coach Tina Deese is pleased with what she has seen from the Tigers in the early going. "The fall has been fun thus far," Deese said. "The athletes are working with more focus during workouts and practices. The team seems to be gelling together on and off the field and the freshmen are definitely battling for positions on the field. I have been very pleased with the talent of this freshman class."

The Tigers return 16 lettermen from last season, including all eight position starters. Deese noted she will look to see that experience translate into each phase, offensive and defensive, in the fall games.

"I am expecting to see a much more mature defense this fall," Deese said. "We return every infield and outfield starter from last year, so each of them has at least a year of playing experience behind them. I am also expecting that maturity level to carry over into the offensive part of the game. We have worked diligently on our short game, so I am anxious to see if that hard work is going to pay off against opponents this fall."

Auburn will play each Thursday in the month of October, with all games held at Jane B. Moore Field.
