Auburn, Ala. - The Auburn softball team begins fall play this Thursday, Oct. 4, with a pair of games at Jane B. Moore Field. The Tigers will play each Thursday at home during the month of October.
The Tigers opened fall practice the week of Sept. 17, but were forced to wait through consecutive days of rain before taking the field as a team for the first time.
"Aside from rain delays, practice has been very productive for us," Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. "The team is developing good chemistry and getting stronger. We have a lot of talented, heads-up ballplayers on the roster."
In addition to 11 returning letterwinners from last season's team, the Tigers feature nine freshmen on the roster.
"They (freshmen) have come in and survived the first few weeks of workouts," Deese said. "They have managed pretty well and they have done a nice job of getting through it. They are hungry to get better."
With eight exhibition games on the fall schedule, Deese noted the Tigers will take advantage of the opportunities to compete and spring-board their development into the 2013 regular season which begins in February.
"We're looking to win and develop chemistry on the field in these games," Deese said. "We are looking forward to seeing what we've got and how the competition at each position shakes out. We're going to see where our pitching is at and learn from each chance we get."
