The Florida Quicksilver saw its run at the 13th annual Canada Cup ended Saturday as the club lost to Canada, 7-1, in the second game of the championship round.
The loss ends the tournament for Auburn players Holly Currie, Ashley Arcuri, Lauren Walton and Jorja Bell. The Quicksilver went 5-4 at the tournament, losing both of its games in championship round play.
Against Canada, Walton went 1 for 3 from the leadoff spot and Bell was 1 for 2 to lead the Auburn contingent. Currie started at first base and was 0 for 3 while Arcuri hit fifth and played short, going 0 for 3 as well.
Canada touched Florida starter Megan Rhodes for four runs in the second and two more in the fourth before putting a solo run on the board in the seventh. The Quicksilver scored its only run of the game in the sixth when Lauren Delahoussaye singled in Walton from third.
For the tournament, Currie finished with a home run, double, four runs driven in, five walks and three runs scored. From the circle, she was 3-1 with a 2.14 earned run average in 19 2/3 innings of work. She struck out 24 while walking 12 and allowed 17 hits.
Walton batted .233 with five runs scored, while Arcuri finished with five runs, two RBI and three walks. Bell was 3 for 9 with a run scored and a walk.
All four are slated to return to Auburn for the 2007 season. Currie and Walton will be seniors, while Bell a junior and Arcuri a sophomore.
