Dean and Keyes Named To All-Region Team
May 19, 2004
AUBURN - Auburn's Sara Dean and Kristen Keyes were each named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region team for the South Region, it was announced Wednesday.
Dean was tabbed the first-team catcher after batting .349 this season and leading Auburn in nearly every offensive category. She has also been spectacular defensively, throwing out better than 40 percent of potential base stealers.
Keyes, who shattered every single-season Auburn pitching record this year, was a second-team selection. She is 27-10 this year with a minuscule 1.03 earned-run average.
It is the second straight week the duo has been honored. Last week, Dean garnered First-Team All-SEC honors while Keyes was named to the second team.
The two are the first Auburn players to earn All-Region honors since 2002 when Ashley Moore was a first-team choice. It is the first time the Tigers have had two players on the teams since 2001 when they placed three.
Dean and Keyes will lead 12th-ranked Auburn into action on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. CDT as the Tigers face Colonial Athletic Association champion Hofstra in the opening round of the NCAA Region VII Tournament. Auburn is the No. 2 seed in the region, which is hosted by top-seeded Stanford.
