Oxford, Miss. - Auburn's Morgan Estell was named to the Freshman All-Southeastern Conference Softball Team after leading the Tigers in hitting, RBI and doubles during the 2011 regular season.

A native of Kimberly, Ala., Estell ended the regular season in the SEC rankings sixth in batting average (.393), 11th in on-base percentage (.489), second in doubles (17), 12th in hits (59) and tied for eighth in fielding double plays (8). Estell was named as the Freshman All-SEC Designated Player after starting 23 games at first base and 26 games in the outfield in 2011.

"We are all very happy for Morgan earning Freshman All-SEC," Auburn head coach Tina Dees said. "She has worked extremely hard and has had a very good freshman season. She has played very good defensively in both the outfield and at first base. She is a talented student-athlete who works just as hard in the classroom as she does on the field."

Estell began her career in promising fashion, hitting a leadoff home run on the second pitch of her first collegiate at-bat in the season opener against Alabama State on Feb. 12. Estell elevated her game against SEC teams, hitting a team-best .429 with three home runs and six doubles in 16 games against nationally-ranked league opponents.

Estell is the first Auburn player to earned Freshman All-SEC honors since pitcher Anna Thompson in 2007 and the first non-pitcher since Tatiana Fernandez in 2006.

In her first season, Estell has helped lead the Tigers to a 38-16 overall record and a 15-13 mark in SEC play. Auburn set a program record with a 15-game winning streak to open the year and notched the program's first-ever series win over a top five team, winning two of three from fourth-ranked Georgia earlier this season. The Tigers are the seventh seed in the SEC Tournament and will play second-seed Florida at 1:30 p.m. CT Thursday in Oxford, Miss.
