AUBURN, Ala. - Brittany Rogers' RBI single in the ninth inning lifted No. 3 Alabama to a 3-2 comeback win over Georgia in the opening game of the SEC Softball Tournament Thursday at Jane B. Moore Field. The third-seeded Crimson Tide advances to meet the winner of second-seeded LSU and seventh-seeded South Carolina.
Alabama rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win its eighth-straight SEC Tournament opener.
The Bulldogs struck in the first when Kellie Middleton walked, stole second and third, then scored on a Melissa Wood ground out.
Georgia added a run in the sixth when Middleton doubled and later scored on a Wood single.
The Crimson Tied knotted the game at two in the sixth when Kelley Montvalo singled to lead off the inning, and Jordan Praytor reached on a hit by pitch. Both later scored when Michelle Menningmann singled to left.
Kellie Eubanks opened the Alabama ninth with a double to left center. Mallory Benak pinch-ran for Eubanks, and moved to third on Katie Johnson's ground before scoring the winning run on Rogers' single.
Chrissy Owens (24-3) picked up the win for Alabama, pitching the final four innings, allowing just two hits.
Kasi Carroll (26-9) took the loss for the Bulldogs, surrendering three earned runs on 10 hits in 8 1/3 innings.
Alabama will play the LSU-South Carolina winner Friday at 5:00 pm CT.
