Auburn Softball's Anna Thompson Named To ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic Team

Auburn, Ala. - Auburn junior softball player Anna Thompson was named to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team for the second consecutive year.

Thompson, a native of Huntsville, Ala., and a graduate of Grissom High School, is working towards a double major of finance and accounting and has a 3.47 cumulative grade point average.

Thompson was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team in 2008. Additionally, Thompson was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2008.

"This is a well-deserved recognition for Anna," Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. "She works incredibly hard and devotes a great deal of time to academics and has done a terrific job of keeping that balanced with a busy softball schedule."

On the field in 2009, Thompson is ranked among the top 10 in the SEC in ERA (7th), Opponent's Batting Average (3rd), Strikeouts (2nd) and Strikeouts Looking (2nd). Thompson moved into a tie for first place in career strikeouts in Auburn history and for 10th place in SEC history after striking out seven batters Thursday against No. 1 Florida. Thompson currently has 782 career strikeouts.

To be nominated for the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, student-athletes must a minimum 3.30 grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games (exception in baseball and softball, pitchers must have at least 10.0 innings pitched. Student-Athletes must have completed at least one full calendar year at his/her current institution and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
