Auburn, Ala. -
The Auburn Tigers will face the fifth-ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Softball Tournament. The game is slated for a 1:30 p.m. CT first pitch and will be televised by ESPNU. The tournament will be held at Rhoades Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
"We are looking forward to the tournament and the challenge of playing a very good Tennessee team," Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. "Our seniors have worked extremely hard this season and kept fighting through injuries and the ups-and-downs that always seem to come. This was one of their goals and I know they are happy to have achieved that. Now we have to get to work and prepare ourselves for the Lady Vols."
Auburn finished the 2012 regular season with a 33-20 overall record and a 12-16 record in SEC play. The Tigers finished third in the SEC Western Division and will go into the SEC Tournament as the seventh overall seed. Auburn is making its fifth consecutive trip to the SEC Tournament and 13th trip overall.
The Lady Vols claimed the SEC Eastern Division championship with a 22-6 SEC record and will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament. The Lady Vols posted a 45-9 overall record this season.
Tennessee eliminated the Tigers from the SEC Tournament last season in Oxford, Miss., with a 2-1 victory in the quarterfinal round. The Lady Vols also swept a three-game series in Auburn in April this season.
