Auburn, Ala. -
Auburn senior softball player Myesha Finney was named to the All-Southeastern Conference Second Team and All-Defensive Team after posting a .324 average with seven home runs this season.
"I am very happy for Myesha, as the whole team is," Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. "She has worked so hard this season and it has really paid off for her. She has done everything we have asked of her this season and has made the most of her senior season."
A native of Atlanta, Finney was second on the team with four-game winning RBI for the Tigers this season. Her seven home runs this season surpassed her career total of six prior to the start of the 2009 season. Two of Finney's home runs were late-inning game winners.
Finney hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to beat Troy 3-2 on Feb. 17, and against the Arkansas Razorbacks, Finney hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to lift Auburn to a 5-4 victory. Finney fouled off nine consecutive pitches on a 3-2 count before hitting the game-winning dinger.
Additionally, Finney has reached base via a hit, walk or hit-by-pitch in 43 of 50 games played in 2009 and is hitting .361 (17-for-47) with nine runs, four RBI and two home runs from the fifth through seventh innings this season.
This season marks the second consecutive year Finney has been named to the SEC All-Defensive Team. Finney has just one error and a .984 fielding percentage this season.
Finney and the eighth-seeded Tigers will take on No. 1 Florida in the first round of the SEC Tournament. Auburn and Florida are slated for a 4 p.m. CT first pitch on Thursday. The SEC Tournament is hosted by the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
