Auburn, Ala. -
The eighth-seeded Auburn softball team will play the top-ranked and top-seeded Florida Gators in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament beginning Thursday at 4 p.m. CT in Knoxville, Tenn.
Auburn is making its 10th trip to the SEC Tournament and its ninth trip in the last 10 years. The Tigers are 29-26 overall this season and finished with a 9-19 record in the SEC. Florida enters the tournament at 51-3 overall and 26-1 in the SEC.
"Obviously, playing the top-ranked team in the country is tremendous challenge for our team," Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. "Florida is an excellent team. We played them close the first game this season, with Anna pitching a good game. Hopefully we can take that experience and use that to our advantage on Thursday."
Florida swept a double-header from the Tigers on April 1, at Jane B. Moore Field. Auburn pitcher Anna Thompson held the Gators to three runs on five hits, but three runs would be all Florida needed as pitcher Stacey Nelson blanked the Tigers for the 3-0 win. Florida then took a 7-1 victory in the second game to complete the sweep.
Radio coverage of the game can be found in Auburn on WZMG Am 910 and on the internet at www.auburntigers.com. Live stats can be accessed via the Southeastern Conference website at www.secsports.com and clicking on softball.
