Auburn, Ala. - Heavy rain and thunderstorms in the Mobile area have forced the Auburn softball team to cancel its game against the South Alabama Jaguars for Wednesday, March 10.

No make-up game will be played against South Alabama due to schedule conflicts. The Tigers were set to travel to Mobile for the 6 p.m. game, but instead will begin preparations for their Southeastern Conference opener against the Kentucky Wildcats this weekend at Jane B. Moore Field.

The Tigers and Wildcats play a double-header Saturday, March 13, beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday's single-game series finale is slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch.

Auburn (13-6) has had three consecutive midweek games canceled, two due to weather (Michigan and South Alabama) and one due to travel complications (Jacksonville State).

The Tigers are coming off a four-game sweep in the War Eagle Classic last weekend at Jane B. Moore Field.

Pitching has been the foundation for the Tigers through the first month of the 2010 season. Senior hurler Anna Thompson was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week after throwing her first no-hitter in the Tigers 1-0 win over Louisiana Tech.

Thompson, from Huntsville, Ala., currently ranks third in the SEC in ERA (0.56), first in lowest opponent batting average (.085), first in strikeouts (128), fourth in strikeouts looking (28), tied for first in saves (4) and fourth in fewest hits allowed (17).

As a team, the Tigers are fourth in ERA (1.51), second in lowest opponent batting average (.178), first in strikeouts (203), tied for third in fewest hits allowed (84) and fourth in fewest earned runs allowed (29).

Offensively, sophomore Amber Harrison is second in the SEC in RBI with 22, is tied for second in doubles with six and is hitting .346 (21-for-52). Freshman Kelsey Cartwright leads the Tigers with a .368 batting average.
