Columbus, Ga. -
Senior Jorja Bell hit a three-run home run and drove in four runs for the game as the Auburn softball team defeated Syracuse 6-0 Sunday in the last game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
Auburn improved to 15-3 overall, while Syracuse dropped to 0-13. Senior Brittay Day (3-1) threw a complete-game shutout, allowing only four hits and striking out seven to earn the win.
Angie Sagnelli (0-5) took the loss for Syracuse after giving up one run, earned, in one-third of an inning of work. Brittany Gardner threw the final 5.2 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on four hits.
The Tigers put a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first. Myesha Finney singled with one out and later scored on a bases loaded sac fly to right by Bell. The run gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Bell gave the Tigers some breathing room with a three-run home run in bottom of the third inning. It was Bell's third home run of the season and came with Taryn Gray and Tatiana Fernandez aboard to give Auburn a 4-0 lead.
Auburn took advantage of a Syracuse error to plate two runs in the fourth inning. Kyndall White walked and moved to second on a single to right by Starr Dorsey.
Lindsey Harrelson then put down a sac bunt that was fielded by the pitcher, but her throw to first was wild and allowed both runners to score to give Auburn the final 6-0 margin of victory.
Auburn returns to action Wednesday with a 6:30 p.m. CT game at Samford.
