Auburn, Ala. -
The Auburn softball team welcomes Purdue, Winthrop, Middle Tennessee and Austin Peay to the Plains for the War Eagle Classic tournament beginning Friday at Jane B. Moore Field.
Auburn enters the tournament with an 11-1 record and has won seven straight. Auburn will play twice on Friday, taking on Winthrop at 2:30 p.m. and Middle Tennessee at 5 p.m.
On Saturday, the Tigers will play Austin Peay at 3 p.m. in their only game of the day.
Auburn closes the tournament Sunday with a 2 p.m. game against Purdue.
"We are looking forward to this weekend," Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. "These teams are playing well, especially Purdue and Winthrop. They have all played some tough competition in the early going this season, so they are coming in with a pretty good idea of what they can do. It's going to be a good challenge for our team."
Auburn is coming off a 3-2 win over Troy Tuesday night. The Tigers got a solo home run in the top of the ninth from Myesha Finney for the game-winner. The win marked the third straight game the Tigers had won in their last at-bat.
On Sunday, Auburn defeated Morehead State 2-0 on a two-out, two-run double
in the top of the seventh by Morgan Murphy. The win followed a 5-3 win over Western Kentucky on Saturday. Auburn trailed Western Kentucky 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Elizabeth Eisterhold hit a one-out, three-run home run for the game winner.
