Estell, Carosone named to preseason All-SEC team

Feb. 3, 2014

AUBURN, Ala. - Junior Morgan Estell and sophomore Emily Carosone were both named to the 2014 Preseason All-SEC Team as announced by the league office today in Birmingham, Ala.

Estell and Carosone join 13 other SEC players who made the team with Estell making her third-straight appearance. For Carosone, it's her first time being named to the team after earning SEC All-Freshman honors last season.

Alabama and Georgia led all schools with three selections each, followed by the Tigers, Florida and Tennessee with two. Kentucky, LSU and Texas A&M each had one player named to this year's team.

Carosone started all 53 games for Auburn a year ago, the only freshman on the squad to do so. She hit a team-best .389 with 14 doubles, one triple, four home runs and 35 RBI. Her average set an AU freshman record and was the third-best single-season effort in program history. The 35 RBI tied for second-most by an Auburn freshman and she was one of two Tigers (Morgan Estell) to record a four-hit game during the season.

Estell also started all 53 games for Auburn last year, hitting .344 with 60 runs scored, nine doubles, three triples, four home runs and 23 RBI. The 60 runs marked an Auburn single-season record and posted the second-best single-season on-base percentage in Auburn history at .482. She started the first 25 games of the season in centerfield, before moving to first base for the remaining 26 games, committing one error for the entire year and none in SEC play. Estell was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team last year for her stellar efforts in the field.

The Tigers will kick off the 2014 season Thursday, Feb. 6 at Troy, Ala., against the Troy Trojans starting at 3 p.m. The Orange and Blue will then begin its 15-game home-stand Friday, Feb. 7 starting with North Dakota State in the Plainsman Invite at Jane B. Moore Field.

All home games at Jane B. Moore Field this year will require a purchased ticket unless otherwise specified. All ticket information can be found here on
