Auburn, Ala. - Auburn softball's Morgan Estell was elected to the 2013 All-Southeastern Conference Preseason Team in a vote by SEC coaches, the league office announced today.
Estell, from Kimberly, Ala., is coming off a shortened 2012 season after she sustained a season-ending injury just 15 games into the season. At the time of the injury Estell was hitting a team-best .432 with four doubles, 11 RBI and 17 runs scored.
"I am very excited for Morgan to earn this recognition," Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. "She has always represented her team well. Morgan is a highly driven ballplayer with a tremendous work ethic. I believe this will be a motivator for her to work even harder."
Estell earned Freshman All-SEC in 2011 after hitting .376 with 18 doubles, six home runs and 30 RBI. Estell also hit a team-best .389 with nine doubles, four home runs and 18 RBI in SEC play.
The Auburn softball team will open the 2013 season by hosting the Plainsman Invitational tournament Feb. 8-10 at Jane B. Moore Field.
The Tigers will host Army, Austin Peay, East Tennessee State, Kent State and Furman in the three-day tournament. Admission is free.
