Auburn, Ala. -
Lauren Guzman drove in three runs to lead the Auburn softball team to an 8-5 win over Ole Miss Sunday and complete a three-game sweep of the Rebels.
The win moved Auburn to 20-6 overall and 3-0 in the Southeastern Conference. Ole Miss fell to 11-9 overall and 0-3 in the SEC.
The Tigers return to action next weekend with a road trip to Kentucky March 14-15.
"I am very proud of our approach to the game right now," Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. "Our offense did a great job all weekend long. Holly Ragsdale did a very good job today, as did Jenee Loree."
Ragsdale (2-0) earned the win in her first collegiate start after allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits in 4.0 innings of work. Loree earned the save after going the final 3.0 innings, giving up two runs, both earned, on three hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Lindsey Perry (3-4) took the loss for Ole Miss after giving up seven runs, six earned, on eight hits in 4.0 innings.
The Rebels took the early lead when Ashley Dowdy singled home Lauren Grill with two outs in the top of the first inning. Grill singled with two outs and moved to second when Michelle May walked.
Auburn quickly tied the game, taking advantage of an Ole Miss miscue in the bottom of the first. Kyndall White walked to open the frame and moved to second on Katie Colton's sac bunt. White moved to third on Tatiana Fernandez's flyout to right, and then scored on a wild pitch with Elizabeth Eisterhold at the plate.
The Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third when leadoff hitter Lindsey Harrelson hit a solo home run to left. It was Harrelson's first home run of the season and her first since 2007.
Following Harrelson's homer, Fernandez walked with two outs and moved to second on a single by Eisterhold. Amber Harrison
walked to load the bases and Guzman doubled to shallow left to score Fernandez and Eisterhold for a 4-1 Auburn lead.
Katie Colton gave the Tigers a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning. Megan Mitchell opened the frame with a single and then stole second. A ground out moved Mitchell to third and Colton brought her home with a double to the wall in center.
Ole Miss closed the gap in the fifth. Corrine Doornberg was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a single by Lisa Conchos. With one out and runners on third and second, May hit a ground ball that White booted at short, allowing Doornberg to score. A passed ball then allowed Conchos to score and make it a 5-3 lead for the Tigers.
Auburn pushed the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Eisterhold doubled to lead off the inning and was lifted for pinch-runner Cassie Trosclair. Harrison then put down a sac bunt that Perry fielded clean, but threw wild to first. The errant throw allowed Harrison to move to second and Trosclair to score from second.
Guzman made it a 7-3 game with a single to right-center that scored Harrison from second and chase Perry from the game.
In the sixth inning, White walked with one out and moved to second on a single by Colton. Eisterhold drew a two-out walk to load the bases and Harrison followed with a single to right that scored White and pushed the Auburn lead to 8-3.
The Rebels would score a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, but were unable to sustain a rally as the Tigers held on for an 8-5 win.
