AUBURN, Ala.  Emily Carosone and Auburn can't seem to help it.  They're not trying to hit home runs, they say, but the softball sure seems to land over the fence a lot.

Carosone was up to the Tigers' same early-season tricks Wednesday, hitting a 3-run homer, a 2-run homer, an RBI double and raising her batting average to a cool .667 to help Auburn beat Georgia State 10-0 to improve to 13-0 on the season.

"I don't need to hit a home run," Carosone said. "It just turns into a home run."

That's the mantra of coach Clint Myers, who only talks of good swings, and not so much about the SEC-leading 27 home runs the Tigers have already hit.

"There's no pitching around our lineup," Carosone said.

Carosone hits second in the lineup, and, after two innings, she already had two home runs and five of her six RBIs. Her RBI double in the third hit on the warning track before bouncing off the outfield wall.

Auburn has played a full seven innings just once in the first 13 games. All the others were called after five innings because of Auburn's big leads and the run-rule.

The Tigers will be looking for more of the same beginning Friday in its first games away from Jane B. Moore Field against Dartmouth and South Florida in the opening of the three-day South Florida Tournament in Tampa.

"I would like to see everything stay consistent because we're heading in the right direction," Myers said.

Carosone put up the flashy six RBIs Wednesday. Tiffany Howard added two RBIs and Carlee Wallace added one. Lexi Davis improved to 6-0, allowing one hit in three innings. Rachael Walters pitched two no-hit innings to close the game.

"That's the nice thing I see about this ball club: We have different heroes all the time," Myers said. "We're pretty good 1-through-9 right now.

"I thought Lexi and Rachel did a great job. And we had timely hitting today, and that's something we preach all the time."

Oh, that timely hitting. Carosone is now tied with the Jade Rhodes with a team-best five homers. Haley Fagan has four.

"We go up there all the time trying to get good, quality at-bats. Our definition of a home run is the by-product of a good swing," Myers said.
