AUBURN, Ala. -
Freshman Katy Frierson and senior Allison Whitworth were both named to the 2008 NSCAA/adidas Division I Women's All-Southeast Region teams, the coaches organization announced. Frierson was named to the second team while Whitworth was named to the third team.
Frierson, from Birmingham, led Auburn in goals (nine) and points (25) while finishing third in assists (seven). Named the SEC Freshman of the Year and a First Team All-SEC midfielder, she was a force for Auburn in the midfield, scoring all nine of her goals in SEC play, which tied for the most in league action. Helping Auburn to a share of its sixth SEC Western Division crown, all but two of her points were recorded in league play.
Whitworth, also from Birmingham, finished her career as the all-time saves leader in Auburn history. Collecting a school-record 132 saves this past season, she finished her career with 356 saves while posting a career-best 1.02 GAA in her senior campaign. The backstop for Auburn's third-straight NCAA team, she was named the First Team All-SEC goalkeeper and the Scholar Athlete of the Year.
This is the first time an Auburn player has been named to the NSCAA All-Region team since the Ronda Brooks was named to the First Team in 2005.
