The Auburn soccer team placed three players on the 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru All-South Region Teams, it was announced on Thursday. Midfielder Katy Frierson was placed on the First Team, defender Julie King was placed on the Second Team and defender Sammy Towne was placed on the Third Team.
Frierson, a junior from Homewood, has previously been named to the All-SEC First Team, to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Season and an ESPN Academic All-American. This past season she led Auburn and was fourth in the SEC with 28 points (eight goals, 12 assists), recording at least one point in all 11 of Auburn's wins. Her 12 assists were second-most in the conference and 11th nationally. This marks the third straight season that she has been named to the All-Region Team and the second consecutive time she has been placed on the First Team.
King, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., also has been named to the All-SEC First Team and the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Season Second Team. Primarily an outside back, she played in and started all 21 matches and finished the year with 44 shots, third-most on the team, scoring four goals and adding two assists. Leading the team in minutes played with 1896, she helped Auburn post five shutouts.
Towne, a senior from Royal Palm Beach, Fla., was a All-SEC Second Team selection this past season for the second consecutive season. A center-back in Auburn's four-back alignment, she was an integral piece to the Auburn defense, which allowed 27 and posted five shutouts. In 1759 minutes of play, fourth-most on the team, she recorded her first career point with a second assist in the win over Tennessee Tech.
