Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa has led two different programs to a combined nine NCAA Tournament appearances (Auburn - 8, Central Florida - 1) ... Hoppa is 4-9-0 all-time as a head coach in NCAA Tournament action. Auburn went 3-7-2 against teams selected to the 2009 NCAA Tournament. Auburn went 5-2-0 when Rebecca Howell scored a goal and 5-0-0 when Katy Frierson scored a goal and 5-1-1 when she had at least one assist ... Fr. GK Amy Howard was named the SEC Freshman of the Week following Auburn's wins over Tennessee and No. 19 Georgia ... It marked the third time this season that Howard has won the SEC Freshman of the Week award, becoming the first Auburn player to win a conference award three times in a single season. Sr. F Rebecca Howell took over the team lead in goals with her three-goal outburst against Tennessee (one) and Georgia (two), and finished the year with a career-high eight on the year ... Howell scored 22 career goals, which is tied with Tiffany Smith (1993-96) and Chrissy Culver (2001-04) for fifth in school history ... Her two goals against Georgia helped her become just the seventh player in Auburn history to break the 60-point barrier (65 pts) for a career as her 21 assists are fifth in school history ... She also took 176 shots, which is fourth in school history. Sr. F Caitlin King finished her career with 15 goals, which places her in a four-way tie for ninth on the Auburn career goals list with Kara Kasten (2005-08), Ronda Brooks (2003-06) and Sara Power (2001-05) ... Her six point weekend against Vanderbilt (two goals) and Kentucky (one goal) allowed her to become the ninth player in Auburn history to break the 50-point barrier in a career (55 pts) ... She also has taken 187 shots in her career, third in Auburn history. So. MF Katy Frierson had the first three-assist match of her career vs. Vanderbilt, earning the first assist on Mary Coffed's goal and the second assist on both of Caitlin Kings ... She then had a two-assist game in the opening round of the SEC Tournament, upping her career total to 17, which is tied for seventh with Jac Schwarz (2002-06) and Jill Palmer (1995-98) in Auburn history. Sr. F Caitlin King finished the year second on the team with seven assists, which is tied for fifth in the SEC ... King finished with 25 career assists, which is third in Auburn history. Auburn scored 14 goals in its last six matches after being shutout in three straight ... The last time Auburn was shutout in three straight matches was in Karen Hoppa's first season at Auburn (1999) when it was shutout in each of the final four matches of the season. Auburn went 0-4-3 in overtime matches this season and 0-2-0 in double-overtime matches ... The seven overtime matches are tied for second most in a single-season at Auburn, behind the eight (4-1-3) Auburn played in 2006 and tied with the seven (1-3-3) in 2003. Auburn is 14-38-4 (.286) all-time against Top 25 teams. So. MF Katy Frierson scored her 14th career goal at Alabama ... Of her 14 goals, 12 of them have come in SEC play ... She now has 45 career points (14 goals, 17 assists) in 43 matches ... In SEC-only play, she has 12 goals and 10 assists for 34 points. Auburn's tie with No. 1 North Carolina marked the second straight season that Auburn tied a top-5 team. Fr. GK Amy Howard made a career-high 12 saves in the tie with North Carolina and made 18 on the weekend ... She was named to the Duke Nike Classic All-Tournament Team along with Sr. D. Lizzie Hamersly ... Howard was named the Soccer America Player of the Week, the SEC Freshman of the Week and a CollegeSoccer360.om Primetime Performer following the Duke Nike Classic. Auburn finished third in the SEC in shots taken with 355 (16.14 per game) ... The team was sixth in goals scored (35) and fourth in assists (39), leaving it sixth in the conference with 109 points.
Auburn opened its regular season with back-to-back ties for the first time in school history. Amy Howard was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on August 24 after posting a shutout at Samford ...
