    2009 YEAR IN REVIEW

    • Auburn finished the year 10-9-3, 6-5-0 in SEC play ... Auburn finished third in the SEC West and sixth overall in the SEC standings.

    Katy Frierson - 2009 First Team All-SEC
    • Auburn was selected as an at-large berth to a fourth consecutive the NCAA Tournament ... It was Auburn's eighth NCAA Tournament overall, all coming under the watch of Karen Hoppa.

    • Auburn is 4-8-0 all-time in the NCAA Tournament ... Auburn is 4-4-0 in the First Round and 0-4-0 all-time in the Second Round.

    • Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa has led two different programs to a combined nine NCAA Tournament appearances (Auburn - 8, Central Florida - 1) ... Hoppa is 4-9-0 all-time as a head coach in NCAA Tournament action.

    • Auburn went 3-7-2 against teams selected to the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

    • Auburn played in a ninth consecutive SEC Tournament, which is the fourth-longest active streak in the conference behind Florida (15 straight), Ole Miss (13) and Tennessee (12).

    • Auburn advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament for the sixth time in school history before falling to LSU ... Auburn is 6-13-2 all-time at the SEC Tournament.

    • So. MF Katy Frierson was named First Team All-SEC for the second time ... She is the third player in Auburn history to be named First Team All-SEC in her first two years, joining Maggie Cauley and Kristen Schier, who each did it in 1994 and 1995 ... Frierson led the team and was ninth in the SEC with 20 points (five goals, 10 assists) ... Her 10 assists were third in the SEC.

    • Sr. F Rebecca Howell and Jr. D Sammy Towne were each voted to the All-SEC Second Team ... Howell tied for second on Auburn's team with 17 points, collecting a team-best eight goals (tied for ninth in the SEC) and one assist ... Towne was a starting back in 21 of Auburn's 22 matches, missing just the match at Mississippi State after breaking her arm in the 0-0 tie with then-No. 1 North Carolina.

    • Fr. GK Amy Howard was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team ... She led the SEC with 121 saves, which is second in Auburn history for a single-season and already fifth for an Auburn career ... She finished second in the SEC with 5.50 saves per game, sixth with an .818 save percentage and ninth with a 1.19 goals against average ... Her five shutouts are also tied for 10th in the league.

    • Auburn went 5-2-0 when Rebecca Howell scored a goal and 5-0-0 when Katy Frierson scored a goal and 5-1-1 when she had at least one assist ... The two scored in the same game three times in 2009 (vs. Texas Tech, at Mississippi State, at Alabama).

    • Auburn's win at Alabama secured a fourth consecutive winning record in conference play for Auburn and the eighth in head coach Karen Hoppa's 11 years at Auburn ... In 11 seasons, Hoppa has guided Auburn to a 59-42-10 (.577) record in SEC play and six SEC West titles.

    • Auburn went 3-2-0 against the SEC West and finished the year 3-3-0 against the SEC East for a 6-5-0 record ... Auburn has a .663 winning percentage (49-28-7) all-time against SEC West teams and owns a .500-or-better record against all five Western Division opponents [Alabama: 10-6-2/.611; Arkansas: 10-5-2/.647; Ole Miss: 8-8-1/.500; Mississippi State: 11-3-1/.767; LSU: 10-6-1/.618].

    • The senior class of Stephanie Fransoso, Lizzie Hamersly, Rebecca Howell, Caitlin King, Jenni Prescott and Chelsea Yauch has helped Auburn win 43 matches (43-32-10 / .565), two SEC West Division titles and advanced to four NCAA Tournaments ... The 43 wins is seventh all-time for a four-year period in Auburn history ... The school record for wins in a four-year period is 55 from 2001-04 (55-21-8 / .702) [see chart at bottom of this page for more information].

    Sammy Towne - Second Team All-SEC
    • Sr. F Rebecca Howell was named the SEC Player of the Week, a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer and was placed on the Soccer America and TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's Team of the Week following her three-goal weekend against Tennessee and Georgia which helped Auburn clinch a ninth straight SEC Tournament berth ... Howell scored the game-winner in the 3-1, come-from-behind win at Tennessee, Auburn's first ever win in Knoxville, and had both goals in the 2-0 win over No. 19 Georgia.

    • Fr. GK Amy Howard was named the SEC Freshman of the Week following Auburn's wins over Tennessee and No. 19 Georgia ... It marked the third time this season that Howard has won the SEC Freshman of the Week award, becoming the first Auburn player to win a conference award three times in a single season.

    • Sr. F Rebecca Howell took over the team lead in goals with her three-goal outburst against Tennessee (one) and Georgia (two), and finished the year with a career-high eight on the year ... Howell scored 22 career goals, which is tied with Tiffany Smith (1993-96) and Chrissy Culver (2001-04) for fifth in school history ... Her two goals against Georgia helped her become just the seventh player in Auburn history to break the 60-point barrier (65 pts) for a career as her 21 assists are fifth in school history ... She also took 176 shots, which is fourth in school history.

    • Sr. F Caitlin King finished her career with 15 goals, which places her in a four-way tie for ninth on the Auburn career goals list with Kara Kasten (2005-08), Ronda Brooks (2003-06) and Sara Power (2001-05) ... Her six point weekend against Vanderbilt (two goals) and Kentucky (one goal) allowed her to become the ninth player in Auburn history to break the 50-point barrier in a career (55 pts) ... She also has taken 187 shots in her career, third in Auburn history.

    • So. MF Katy Frierson had the first three-assist match of her career vs. Vanderbilt, earning the first assist on Mary Coffed's goal and the second assist on both of Caitlin Kings ... She then had a two-assist game in the opening round of the SEC Tournament, upping her career total to 17, which is tied for seventh with Jac Schwarz (2002-06) and Jill Palmer (1995-98) in Auburn history.

    • Sr. F Caitlin King finished the year second on the team with seven assists, which is tied for fifth in the SEC ... King finished with 25 career assists, which is third in Auburn history.

    • Auburn scored 14 goals in its last six matches after being shutout in three straight ... The last time Auburn was shutout in three straight matches was in Karen Hoppa's first season at Auburn (1999) when it was shutout in each of the final four matches of the season.

    • Auburn went 0-4-3 in overtime matches this season and 0-2-0 in double-overtime matches ... The seven overtime matches are tied for second most in a single-season at Auburn, behind the eight (4-1-3) Auburn played in 2006 and tied with the seven (1-3-3) in 2003.

    • Auburn's 2-0 win over No. 19 Georgia on Sunday, Oct. 25 was it's first overa a nationally ranked opponent since Oct. 12, 2007, a 2-0 win over No. 19 LSU ... Auburn is 14-38-4 (.286) all-time against Top 25 teams.

    • So. MF Katy Frierson scored her 14th career goal at Alabama ... Of her 14 goals, 12 of them have come in SEC play ... She now has 45 career points (14 goals, 17 assists) in 43 matches ... In SEC-only play, she has 12 goals and 10 assists for 34 points.

    • Auburn's tie with No. 1 North Carolina marked the second straight season that Auburn tied a top-5 team.

    • Fr. GK Amy Howard made a career-high 12 saves in the tie with North Carolina and made 18 on the weekend ... She was named to the Duke Nike Classic All-Tournament Team along with Sr. D. Lizzie Hamersly ... Howard was named the Soccer America Player of the Week, the SEC Freshman of the Week and a CollegeSoccer360.om Primetime Performer following the Duke Nike Classic.

    • Auburn finished third in the SEC in shots taken with 355 (16.14 per game) ... The team was sixth in goals scored (35) and fourth in assists (39), leaving it sixth in the conference with 109 points.

    Amy Howard - SEC All-Freshman Team
    • Auburn opened its SEC season with a 5-1 win at Mississippi State ... The five goals tied the Auburn record for the most goals scored in its conference-opener, also scoring five in a 5-0 win over Ole Miss in 1996.

    • Auburn opened its regular season with back-to-back ties for the first time in school history.

    • Amy Howard was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on August 24 after posting a shutout at Samford ... She made two saves (on five shots) while the team played a man down for the final 65:56.

    • TopDrawerSoccer.com had Auburn ranked 25th in its preseason 2009 Women's Tournament 64 Ranking ... It marked the fourth time in school history that Auburn began a season as a Top 25 squad ... The other years were 2003, 2004 and 2005.
