November 12, 2003
AUBURN - Senior defenseman Erin Hinson has been named to the District IV Academic All-America First Team for women's soccer as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
"Erin is the epitome of a student-athlete," Auburn head coach Karen Hoppa said. "She is a tremendous player on the field and as a three-time captain she is a wonderful leader. But, she also gets it done in the classroom as well. She has been successful in all aspects of her collegiate career."
Hinson, a Birmingham native, holds a 3.86 cumulative grade point average in exercise science at Auburn. She has been an integral part of the Auburn defense since coming to the Plains in 2000 as she has started every game in her four years (81), which is a school record.
Hinson is a three-time team captain for the Tigers and has been named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week and the SEC Defensive Player of the Week during the season. In 2003, Hinson has helped lead the Tigers to 11 shutouts on the year and a third consecutive SEC Western Division title.
The national Academic All-America Team will be announced on Nov. 25 including a first, second and third team comprised of 11 members on each team.
Hinson and the Tigers will be back in action Friday, Nov. 14 when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. for a first round NCAA Tournament matchup with Oklahoma State at 3:30 p.m. CDT. The match will be broadcast live on WAUD 1230 AM and on the web at www.auburntigers.com.
