Auburn In The NCAA Tournament Notes

Auburn (14-6-2, 5-5-1 SEC) • UTAH STATE (15-4-2, 5-1-1 WAC)

• General admission tickets are $10. Students with a valid ID and youth tickets are $3. In addition, the first 100 Auburn University students will receive complimentary admission.

• Auburn received the SEC's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament by winning the 2011 SEC Tournament at Orange Beach ... Auburn defeated LSU (3-0), No. 23 Tennessee (3-0) and No. 23 Florida (3-2) to claim its first-ever SEC Tournament Championship.

• Auburn is in the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time, including each of the last six seasons ... Auburn's 10th trip to the tournament is the second-most among SEC teams (Florida, 15) and its six straight NCAA Tournament appearances is also second among SEC teams (Florida, 9).

• Auburn is playing host to the NCAA Tournament First Round for the third time in school history ... Auburn also was selected to host the opening round in 2004 and 2008.

• Auburn is 4-9-0 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and 2-2-0 when the match is played at Auburn ... Auburn has advanced out of the NCAA Tournament First Round four times (2002, 2003, 2004 & 2008) but has yet to advance into the Sweet 16.

• Auburn is playing host to Western Athletic Conference Tournament Champion Utah State in the First Round ... The matchup is the first between the two programs ... Auburn has faced just one current member of the WAC, going 0-1-1 against Hawai'i ... Both of those matches came at Hawai'i (T, 2-2, 1997; L, 2-1 OT, 2007).

• Auburn faced 10 of the 64 teams in this year's tournament, going 7-5-1 against the field ... Of the 16 seeded teams, Auburn faced four of them (No. 1s Duke and Wake Forest, No. 2 Florida and No. 4 Tennessee) a total of six times, going 3-3-0 ... Only four of the 10 teams Auburn had previously faced this season are on its half of the bracket and only one (South Carolina) is in its Region and the two could not meet until the Quarterfinals.



• The winer of the Auburn-Utah State NCAA First Round match will face the winner of the Maryland (10-5-4) vs. La Salle (15-1-3) First Round match on Friday, Nov. 18 ... Maryland and La Salle will play on at 5pm on Friday, Nov. 11, in College Park, Md. ... The Second and Third Rounds will take place at the highest-seeded team in Auburn's bracket, which includes No. 2 seed Oklahoma State (19-1-2).

• A SEC-record eight teams were awarded NCAA Tournament bids, surpassing the previous high of six, last done in 1999 ... The eight bids are the second-most of any conference nationally this year, trailing only the ACC's nine.

• Auburn was ranked 15th in the Selection Weekend RPI (Nov. 8) and was the second-highest RPI team out of the SEC behind Florida (No. 8) ... Auburn went 2-2-0 against the RPI Top 10 and 4-3-0 against the RPI Top 25 ... Utah State is No. 58 in the RPI.

• Senior midfielder Katy Frierson became Auburn's first-ever 100-point player in the championship match of the SEC Tournament as she scored two goals and added an assist in the 3-2 win over No. 23 Florida ... She now has 102 points and needs five more points to break into the SEC's top-10.

• Auburn is 113-46-12 (.696) all-time at the Auburn Soccer Complex and has had a winning record at home for five straight seasons and a .500-or-better record for 11 consecutive years ... With a 7-1-1 (.833) mark already this year, Auburn has already extended both of those streaks to six and 12, respectively.

• Senior midfielder Katy Frierson was named the SEC Tournament MVP (and the Player of the Week) for her performance in Auburn's run to its first SEC Tournament Championship, collecting two goals and an assist ... She was one of four All-Tournament selections, joining Ana Cate, Amy Howard and Julie King.
