Sophomore Caitlin King and junior Allison Whitworth were both named to the All-SEC Second Team it was announced on Tuesday. The pair were honored with post-season accolades for the first time in their respective careers.
King, a forward from St. Louis, Mo. (Nerinx Hall), currently leads Auburn with 19 points on four goals and 11 assists, which is second in the conference. A starter on the front line in all 18 contests thus far, she enters the SEC Tournament eighth in the nation in assists per game at 0.61.
Whitworth, a goalkeeper from Birmingham (Briarwood Christian), has been the only player between the pipes for Auburn this season and has posted a league-best eight shutouts and a 1.03 goals against average. In 1658 minutes of play she has made 91 saves, which is fourth in the conference.
The awards mark the eighth consecutive season that at least one Auburn player has been named to one of the post-season All-SEC Teams and the sixth time Auburn has had a second-team selection.
The teams were selected by a vote of the league's 12 head coaches.
Auburn opens up SEC Tournament action on Wednesday, Nov. 7, against LSU at 7:30pm CT at the Orange Beach Soccer Complex in Orange Beach.
