ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – The Auburn soccer team made the most of its “off day” by taking part in a soccer youth clinic put on by the SEC. Members of the team gave back by lending a hand to local fourth grade students who were interested in learning more about soccer.

“[The clinic] was a really fun experience,” said forward Jessie Gerow. “It was good to play soccer with the kids and be around them, and I think it was good because we were all in their shoes one time.”

Participants in the clinic received instruction from the remaining four teams in the SEC Tournament in four different stations. Auburn, with 35 goals to its tally so far in the 2016 season, took charge of the shooting and finishing drills.

Around 100 kids worked their way in and out of the stations and even ended their turn with the Auburn group with a rousing “War Eagle!”

“I thought it was an awesome day and I’m glad we got to hang out with the kids and have some fun,” stated midfielder Anna Frierson. “The kids were great and had so much energy. I hope they learned from us to have fun and to stick with whatever they want to do in life. Hopefully, they’ll all be Auburn soccer fans by the end of the day.”

Katie Hickman, serving as one of Auburn’s representatives, was thankful for her time spent at the clinic with her teammates.

“It was really fun to bond with the team outside of playing soccer, and to teach kids something we love and play every day was a great experience.”
