Q&A with Senior Soccer Player Carly Thomas
October 31, 2003
Q: What has been your greatest memory in Auburn?
A: “ The greatest memory that came to my mind the quickest was when I was a freshman and Auburn football played Georgia at home. It went to overtime and we ended up winning the game. It was such an awesome environment and that was really one of the first things that connected me to Auburn.”
Q: What are you going to do after graduation?
A: “ That is a question. I have been praying a whole lot about it, but I am leaning towards staying here and going to graduate school. I want to be an academic counselor for athletics. So, I might get a Master’s in Counseling Psychology.”
Q: Who is your favorite athlete?
A: “ I really cannot think of my favorite athlete. I like professional athletes who are great people -- who use their platform for positive things. For example, one time I heard this story about a football player who bought a single mom a house, filled the kid’s rooms with toys, and bought them food.”
Q: What is your favorite restaurant?
A: “ It is really not a restaurant, it is a fast food place called ‘Milos’. They only have it in Birmingham and one in Tuscaloosa -- they have the best sauce, it is unbelievable. I guess because I can hardly ever have it makes it so much better.”
Q: Being a senior, what would be one thing you would tell freshman not to do?
A: “ Soccer wise, do not come in unprepared for conditioning. I kind of did that and I just got killed. School wise, do not expect it to be like high school. I came in expecting it to be hard and it fulfilled my expectations.”
Q: What is something unique about you that many people do not know?
A: “ When I came to Auburn I gave my life to Christ and that changed me the most. I am a complete opposite of how I was in high school. So many people who knew me then do not really know me anymore. It has been the most awesome thing.”
Q: Where would you go for a vacation and what would you do?
A: “ I want to go to Australia. I really do not have a specific reason – just to see what it is like, to get culture and the atmosphere. The second would be rock climbing because I did it this summer and I got addicted.”
Q: How did you start playing soccer?
A: “ I have been playing soccer as long as I can remember. I was born in Texas and that was the sport out there. I started out playing a goal keeper and I do not know why because now I am so scared of the ball.”
Q: Who is your favorite cartoon character?
A: “ When I was little I really loved Garfield and it kind of stuck with me. Even though I do not watch a lot of cartoons anymore. He was just funny and a cool pet of the house.”
Q: What is your favorite quote from your favorite movie?
A: “ My favorite movie is ‘Love and Basketball’. One quote I really like is when they are in the car and he asks ‘Who are you going to take to the prom—Spalding?’. The other one is at the end of the movie where she plays him for his heart and loses but he says ‘ Double or nothing’.”
