Hinson Named To Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week
Oct. 28, 2003
AUBURN - Auburn senior defender Erin Hinson has been named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week as announced Wednesday afternoon. The Birmingham native helped lead Auburn to two shutouts on the weekend and its third SEC Western Division title in as many years.
"I am pleased to see that Erin has been recognized for her efforts," head coach Karen Hoppa said. "As a defender, she is overlooked so often for how valuable she is to the team. Since coming to Auburn, she has been such a significant player for us and we are excited to see her honored."
Hinson helped lead the Auburn defense to its 10th and 11th shutouts of the season with a 2-0 win over Arkansas and a 2-0 win over LSU to clinch the Division title. The shutouts are a record for the Tigers in a season, which also leads the SEC in 2003.
On the weekend, the Auburn defense gave up just seven shots with five of those on goal. In Sunday’s win, Hinson broke the Auburn record for consecutive matches started and total matches started with 78. The defender has never missed a start in her four years at Auburn and is expected to break the total matches played record in the first round of the SEC Tournament to be held Nov. 6 in Orange Beach, Ala.
Auburn will wrap up its regular season Friday night in Tuscaloosa as the Tigers travel to Alabama for a 7 p.m. matchup. The contest will help determine Auburn’s standing in the SEC Tournament.
