Auburn, Ala. – Freshman forward Casie Ramsier was named the Southeastern Conference’s soccer Freshman Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
Ramsier, a Dallas, Texas native, upped her season goal total to seven after this weekend’s matches with Tennessee and Missouri. Both matches ended in 1-1 double-overtime draws, but it was Ramsier’s lone goals in each second half that helped give Auburn two important points of the conference season and keep it within striking distance of making the SEC Tournament field.
“Casie has been playing outstanding soccer,” Auburn head coach Karen Hoppa said. “We’re excited to have her play recognized by the SEC. She scored two critical goals on the road for us this weekend to keep us in the hunt for an SEC Tournament berth. She is certainly deserving of this honor.”
Along with leading the team in goals scored this season, Ramsier now has three of Auburn’s four goals in SEC play. She also has started all 16 matches for the Tigers this season and is responsible for over 20% (42) of all of Auburn’s shots in 2013 (198).
Ramsier is the first Auburn player to win the league’s Freshman Player of the Week award this season and second to win an SEC weekly honor in 2013. Junior Alicen Wright won the SEC Defensive Player of the Week award last week.
Auburn improved its record to 4-8-4 overall and 0-5-3 in conference play after the two draws last weekend.
Auburn will return to the AU Soccer Complex this Friday to face Arkansas at 7 p.m. It will then conduct Senior Day ceremonies on Sunday before its match with Vanderbilt at 2 p.m. Before the match, seniors Bianca Sierra, Kim Spence and Maddie Barnes will be honored for their time on The Plains.
