Georgia Weekly Release/Game Notes
AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn Tigers (4-8-1, 0-5-0 SEC) are back home this weekend for just one match as they host the Georgia Bulldogs (9-4-0, 2-3-0 SEC) on Friday at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
The Tigers are coming off a tough weekend last time out, losing to Texas A&M last Friday 3-1 and falling to the No. 8 Florida Gators on the road 3-0.
Auburn’s only goal of the weekend came from junior Tori Ball, who was assisted by freshman Casie Ramsier. Ball is tied for the team-lead with four assists on the year, while Ramsier leads the team in goals (5), points (13), shots (33) and shots on goal (14).
Auburn head coach Karen Hoppa knew that last weekend’s matchups would be difficult, as the Tigers faced two teams that were picked to win their respective divisions.
“We knew it was going to be a tough weekend,” Hoppa said. “Texas A&M and Florida are two legitimate top-25 teams.”
This Friday, the Tigers resume the “South’s Oldest Rivalry” as they will look to shift the momentum in the latter half of the season starting with Georgia. Last year against the Bulldogs, then-goalkeeper Amy Howard came up with a huge 1-0 shutout, finishing the match with seven saves. The Tigers have had plenty of recent success against Georgia, winning four of the last six matches in the series.
“It is going to be a battle. We have a great rivalry with Georgia,” said Hoppa. “It’s a game I always enjoy because we have a lot of players from Georgia that played against some of their players.”
Friday's match is set to begin at 7 p.m. Those attending Friday’s match will be able to participate in Auburn Soccer’s “All Auburn, All Orange” night. The first 200 fans will receive an orange t-shirt. Fans can listen to the match locally on WEGL 91.1 or follow online at AuburnTigers.com.
