Tigers Return Home For Matches With Arkansas And No. 17 LSU
Oct. 1, 2009
AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn soccer team returns home this weekend for a pair of SEC matches, facing Arkansas on Friday at 7:30pm CT and then No. 17 LSU on ESPNU at 2pm on Sunday. "Arkansas and LSU are two quality SEC West opponents," Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "Arkansas is coming off of its best non-conference start ever. They will be playing hard and with a lot of energy." Auburn (4-3-3, 1-1-0 SEC) holds a 9-5-2 edge in its series with Arkansas (6-2-2, 0-2-0 SEC) and is undefeated (7-0-1) in the last eight matches between the two, posting five shutouts in those eight matches. Auburn is 10-5-1 all-time against LSU (6-2-2, 2-0-0 SEC) and is a perfect seven-for-seven in matches played in Auburn. The two schools have combined to win seven of the last eight SEC West titles, with Auburn claiming six and LSU two and the two sharing the title last season with a 7-3-1 league mark. "We will be facing a red-hot LSU team on Sunday. They won 6-0 over Georgia and 5-1 over Tennessee, and this is just unheard of," Hoppa said. "That game will be a huge challenge." Senior Rebecca Howell leads Auburn with four goals on the season while senior Caitlin King has a team-best five assists. Both players are among the school's all-time leaders in points with 57 and 47, respectively. Howell, who has 18 career goals, needs two more to become the seventh player in school history to record 20-plus goals in a career while King already stands third in career assists with 23. This is the second straight week that Auburn will have a match televised live. Last weekend it played at Ole Miss in a match shown on ESPNU while next Sunday's tilt at nationally-ranked Florida will air on Sun Sports. Auburn's home match against Georgia on Sunday, Oct. 25 will air live on FSS.
