Undefeated in its last nine matches and off to the second-best start in program history, the No. 20 Auburn soccer team puts its 8-1-1, 2-0-0 SEC mark on the line on the road this weekend as it travels to Ole Miss (4-5-1, 0-2-0 SEC) on Friday and Mississippi State (3-5-2, 0-2-0 SEC) on Sunday. Kickoff in Oxford, Miss., is set for 7pm while the match in Starkville, Miss., is set for 1pm.
"It is going to be a tough weekend for us going on the road for the first time in SEC play," Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "These are big (SEC) West matches as well."
Auburn brings with it one of the most prolific offenses in Hoppa's tenure as its current pace of 2.60 goals per game has it finishing the regular season with the second-most goals in a single season in school history. Having scored 26 goals through 10 matches, it has already had four four-goal matches.
Leading the offense is senior Katy Frierson, who last weekend set the school record for career assists with 37, which is also seventh all-time in SEC history. Her eight assists is tied for the national lead and her current pace of 0.80 assists per game is fifth nationally.
With Frierson, who is one of 11 different Auburn players to have scored a goal this season, setting the stage on the offensive end, the return of junior goalkeeper Amy Howard last weekend has provided a spark to the defense as she posted a shutout in her first start after leg surgery.
Auburn has a chance to tie the school record for consecutive matches without a loss this weekend at 11, which was done in 2004.
