No. 22 Soccer Heads To Denver For Pair Of Matches
Sept. 14, 2011
Denver Invitational Information Page Riding a five-match winning streak, the No. 22 ranked Auburn soccer team heads to Denver, Colo., for a pair of matches this weekend. Auburn (5-1-0) will face Colorado (2-4-0) at 3pm MT on Friday at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium before facing Denver (5-1-0) at 10am on Sunday. "I don't think Colorado's record reflects what a quality team they are. They have lost a few games recently but they have lost to good teams and out-played a lot of those opponents," Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "Denver only has one loss, and that's to a really good Cal team. They are in our region, which is done by conferences, so it will be a really important match within our region for rankings." Auburn, which has never faced either team before, enters the weekend as one of the top scoring teams in the SEC as well as the nation. Auburn's 15 goals are tied for fourth in the SEC and its 2.50 goals per game are ranked 28th (out of 330) nationally. Leading the charge is freshman Tatiana Coleman, who has four goals, and junior Mary Coffed, who has three. Auburn's five-match winning streak is its longest since it won five straight to open the 2006 season. Should Auburn pick up a sixth straight win, it would match the school record for the longest winning streak, last accomplished in 2004.
