LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Auburn soccer (3-1) dropped its first game of the season here Friday evening 4-0 to No. 9-ranked Pepperdine at the Peter Johann Memorial Field in the UNLV Classic.

“The difference in this game is that Pepperdine finished their opportunities,” head coach Karen Hoppa said. “The shots were 11-to-10, but you would never guess it by the scoreboard. We have to do a better job of finishing, but to their credit, their goalkeeper made some fabulous saves.”

The Waves got on the board at the 13:41 mark as Lacey Ubaldi took a pass from Ali Pavoni sending the shot past Auburn goalkeeper Megan Rivera into the right corner.

Pepperdine took a 2-0 lead at the 28:54 mark as Ubaldi broke through the Auburn defense for a strong shot again to the right side.

Shots on the first half were even at six with five a piece on goal.

In the 66th minute, Pepperdine’s Megan Woods dribbled down the left side toward the Auburn goal and took a shot 15 yards out into the right side past Rivera giving Pepperdine the commanding 3-0 lead.

Pepperdine rounded out the scoring with three and a half minutes remaining in the match as Jennifer Brewer received a pass from the backfield and dribbled down the left line sending the shot into the right side earning a 4-0 advantage.

The Tigers will meet up with UNLV here Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. CDT. Auburn and the Rebels have never met on the field in the school’s history.
