AUBURN, Ala. -
Sophomore Allison Whitworth picked up another piece of recognition for her outstanding opening weekend on the soccer pitch as she was named the SoccerBuzz Elite Team of the Week goalkeeper following her shutout of then-#15 Texas and flawless play against Jacksonville State.
Previously named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week, Whitworth made a career-high seven saves in AU's upset victory over the Longhorns in last weekend's season opener. She followed that up with 45 minutes of scoreless action against Jacksonville State as Auburn posted back-to-back shutouts to open a season for the first time since 2003.
For the weekend, Whitworth, who played 135 minutes, saw 16 shots and did not allow a goal.
Whitworth becomes the sixth Tiger to have been named to the Elite Team of the Week in school history.
Auburn returns to the field on Friday for the first day of the Auburn Classic. The Tigers take on Dartmouth at 7 p.m. CT while Vanderbilt and William & Mary open the tournament at 4 p.m. Admission is free.
