After finishing the preseason with a perfect 2-0 record, the Auburn soccer team will take the field for the first time in regular-season action on Saturday night. And what better place to do that than in Honolulu, Hawai'i, where the Tigers open up the 2007 season against 26th-ranked Kansas at 7pm HT in Auburn's first match of the OHANA Hotels No Ka Oi Tournament. After facing Kansas on Saturday, Auburn will take a day off before battling Hawai'i on Monday night at 7pm. The meeting with both Kansas and Hawai'i will be the second in both series for Auburn, having tied with Hawai'i, 2-2, in 1997in Honolulu while suffering a 1-0, double-overtime loss to Kansas in 2004 in Auburn. "Kansas is a perennial NCAA Tournament team and Hawai'i is a quality, west-coast team which gives us two good out-of-region games to start the season," Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. The Tigers defeated both Memphis (2-1) and Jacksonville State (6-0) in the preseason. Sophomores Caitlin King (three), Rebecca Howell and Stephanie Fransoso (two each) collected multiple goals in the preseason while junior Kara Kasten and sophomore Gabi Rivera each chipped in a pair of assists.
The Tigers depart for Hawai'i on Thursday morning and will leave the island on Tuesday. Auburn then returns to the Auburn Soccer Complex for a 7pm CT match against Troy on Friday, Sept. 7, before playing host to Pittsburgh at 1pm CT on Sunday, Sept. 9. |
