The Auburn soccer team (0-1-0) continues its five-match home stand on Friday when it plays host to Middle Tennessee State (1-1-0) at 7pm CT at the Auburn Soccer Complex. Auburn then plays host to Kennesaw State (1-1-0) at 7pm on Sunday as the team looks to rebound from a season-opening loss to No. 18 Wake Forest.
"I think we will rebound," Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "We have great leadership from (Katy) Frierson and (Julie) King and they know what it takes to win and to come back after a hard loss. I expect the team to be more focused than they were before and pay more attention to some of the details. Our defending was obviously an issue and we need to be better and that's discipline and that's details."
Auburn is coming off a season-opening loss for the first time since the 2005 season and surrendered four goals for the first time since it lost 4-0 at No. 14 Florida on Oct. 11, 2009, a full 30 matches ago. The lone goal for Auburn in the opener came courtesy of a pair of freshmen as Chelsea Gandy-Cromer finished off a Tatiana Coleman cross to temporarily cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 58th minute.
Auburn is 1-0-0 all-time against both teams it is facing this weekend, defeating Middle Tennessee State, 5-0, on Sept. 13, 2002, and defeating Kennesaw State, 3-1, on Sept. 4, 2009, with both matches being played at Auburn.
