Auburn Dominates Evansville 4-0 In Exhibition Matchup

HUNTSVILLE -- The Auburn soccer team started off strong in its exhibition matchup with Evansville here Saturday night at John Hunt Park as the Tigers scored two goals in the first period and continued with the pressure adding two more in the second for the 4-0 win.
The Tigers dominated throughout the contest as they out-shot the Aces 18-1 and taking seven corner kicks to Evansville's one.
Auburn's first score came at 22:21 as Kellie Evans sent a shot up field to forward Jac Schwarz, who then passed to freshman Ronda Brooks. Brooks sent the shot past Aces' goalkeeper Liz Hains giving Auburn a 1-0 lead.
With just three minutes remaining in the half, the Tigers tallied a valuable goal at the 41:41 mark as Jada Stewart sent a diving header in the goal as the play was set up with two clean passes from freshmen Meredith Spink and Jen Lee.
The Tigers added goal number three on the night as Evans sent a free kick directly in front of the goal where Schwarz touched the ball to send it in for the 3-0 Tiger lead.
At the 81:03 mark, Auburn sealed up the game when Erin Hinson sent a shot from around 20 yards out. The Evansville goalkeeper misplayed the ball and senior Sandy Carnes took advantage tipping the ball in the net for the score.
"This game was a great final step before we begin the season," head coach Karen Hoppa said. "There has been an improvement this fall and it gives us a building block for next week."
