The Auburn soccer team will put its recent No. 21 ranking to the test this weekend as it travels to California for a pair of matches, its first road trip of the season. Auburn (2-0-0) will take on No. 8 Pepperdine (1-0-0) at 5pm CT on Friday and then UC Irvine (0-2-0) at 5pm on Sunday.
"Going on the road changes everything," Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "Now we are playing two teams that were in the NCAA Tournament last year, two teams that are very, very good and two West Coast teams that have quality soccer players at every position."
Auburn goes into the road trip fresh off of a pair of season-opening wins, blanking Georgia State, 1-0, last Friday and then running out to a four-goal lead in a 4-1 win over High Point on Sunday. Sophomore Tori Ball and Mary Coffed each netted two goals on the weekend with Ball taking home SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors following her first two career starts on the back line.
Auburn's meeting with Pepperdine will be the second all-time between the two with Pepperdine winning the only other meeting in 2003 at Eugene, Ore. The matchup with UC Irvine will be the first between the two programs.
Auburn started the season with back-to-back wins for the first time since the 2008 season and is looking for its first 3-0-0 start since it started the 2006 campaign 5-0-0.
Both matches will air live on WEGL-FM 91.1 and on auburntigers.com. Friday's match will also feature a live video stream at pepperdinesports.com.
